Dental Lighting Transforms Surgery to ‘A Summer’s Day’
High intensity dental lights from D-Tec have been supplied by Lemonchase to provide optimum lighting levels for a dental practice in central London. Endodontist, Peter Kertesz chose the Denta model because of the strong level of illumination it can deliver throughout the surgery with no glare, limited heat radiation and low levels of energy consumption.

Dentists are prone to eye-strain because their pupils constantly constrict and dilate as they move between the strong light of the operation lamp and the weaker light of the surrounding room. By installing specialist lamps, dentists can protect their eyes by lighting the entire space to ensure the two light types do not exceed a difference of 1:5.

Peter Kertesz comments, "The new lighting is a real pleasure to work with and the surgery feels like a summer’s day everyday! The product is exceptionally well designed and we haven’t found anything comparable on the market. The compact lights give fantastic illumination with a flexible light output. They are versatile to install and can be fixed at any point to the ceiling. The level of service and expertise offered by Lemonchase and the manufacturer was very good."

The Denta light unit from D-Tec provides a high intensity illumination of 4000 lux/1.2 metres. The unit is designed to minimise heat radiation and protects the fittings from penetration of dust and dirt. They are easy to maintain and the latest design of fluorescent tubes are simple to replace, use low levels of energy and can be installed to any surgery ceiling using a wire suspension system.

Lemonchase is the sole distributor of D-Tec professional lighting systems in the UK. Established by Nick Lemon and Mark Chase, both well-known specialists within the field of magnification and lighting, Lemonchase is well placed to offer expert advice to customers.

The DC1 Light Source ‘Under the Spotlight’
The DC1 dental portable operating light from Lemonchase is a lightweight power spotlight that can be clipped securely to dental magnification loupes, LED headbands and even prescription spectacles. Jason Bedford, who works as a specialist endodontist in a number of practices in the Midlands, was recently given a DC1 to evaluate and was so impressed by the level of illumination, wearer comfort and freedom to move around the surgery unhindered by wires cables, he doesn’t want to give it back.

"Before Lemonchase asked me to try out the DC1 spotlight I used 2.5X loupes with a separate fibre optic light source,” explained Jason. “Although fine for most clinical work, the combination was weighty and cumbersome and required unplugging or removal of my loupes in order to move freely around the surgery. I initially assumed the DC1 was just another endodontic gadget that would no doubt fail to live up to the manufacturer's claims, however, I was very pleasantly surprised."

"At just 20 grams the whole assembly is a fraction of the weight of my existing light source and therefore so much more comfortable to wear. The battery is the size of a credit card and fits neatly into the breast pocket of a shirt or tunic. There are no fibre optic cables and only a very fine power cable running from the battery. I found the battery lasts for 8 hours enabling a full days clinical use."

Jason concluded, "The DC1 gives a brighter more focused illumination than standard dental lights, prompting several of my colleagues to dispense with their standard lighting completely. The unit would also be invaluable for anyone carrying out domiciliary visits. This is a 'gadget' I'll definitely be keeping."
